Growing up in southern California, Sylvia didn’t see cherry trees coming into bloom. When she came to England it was one of those sights that words cannot describe fully. The effect they have on the landscape, on people and on herself is palpable. She was delighted to see them in Devonport Park when she moved to Plymouth. A couple of trees at the edge of the woodland area catch her attention every year – white blossoms set off against the dark background of surrounding trees. One of her paintings was inspired by their beauty.
